08:55 pm - History Notes
------The people of Cortanige and the Nation originally came from another continent across the sea, but this is so long that the fact has sunk into antiquity. Once upon a time, the other continent sent a smallish army to quell the people and bring them back more directly under it's control. This failed because the people had made friends with both dwarves and elves and were slightly more advanced in magic then the other continent's mages. However, there was some sort of betrayel or disagreement between the elves and some of the humans so the elves withdrew from the war, refusing any more part in those humans' affairs. The people of the Nation and Cortanige still managed to win the war, though barely. In the process, the Cortani race, who had supported the elves, also seperated from the other tribes although not until after the final battle.

------This prompted the forming of Cortanige, the Cortani being the second largest race on that continent. They created a monarchy by appointing a head family. The first king, Cebyh, created a small delegation of experienced rangers to patrol the borders of Cortanige as often as possible, riding their horses from one end to the other. As the Cortani slowly and steadily  increased their claim of land the Serar Forest became their natural border between them and the Nation. This border was reaffirmed over the years and extended by a few meters. The monarchy was strongly rooted and through good kings and bad, Cortanige has managed to come through. Th Soliq Rounu also has become almost a seperate people, establishing a complex society of their own in the Serar Forest.

------The other races, too weak to make their own countries and not able to agree and compromise enough to make one large country, were forced to band together in a bunch of independent but united states. They originally tried to put these states (which were, at first, clearly divided into races) underneath a monarchy. For nearly a decade, the group sat on the edge of chaos. Finally, the state leaders created a council-like government which loosely controlled all the states, although the race's head families still mostly ruled their own states. Over the years, as the states diversified, large cities sprang up and trade increased, the government began gathering more and more control, until it is now much more in control; head families conduct their former corrupt business in private now instead of out in public and calling it 'justice'. The council-government is made up of a group of patricians who mostly go with the majority vote on any decision. There are patricians assigned to each state and ones assigned to each category (i.e. Trade, Justice, Treasury, Diplomacy, etc.)

------There was once a strictly controlled border between the Nation and Cortanige, back in the days when both countries were young. Over the years, the Nation gradually abandoned their border outposts and now the border is completely unguarded on the Nation side. The reason for this, is the Cortani's reputation for concentrating on their own affairs, and caring little for expansion. The Soliq Rounu is unofficially accepted by both countries as the border control between the two.

------The Cortani's Soliq Rounu society have kept very precise and organized records. These would be incomparably useful to historians if not for the fact that the Soliq Rounu were extremely centered on their own affairs and really didn't ever give a damn what the Nation or other races were doing unless it affected them. The records are often recopied by trainees who are practicing their writing. Because of this, records are kept fresh and also much is lost in the countless recopyings.

------The Nation did not keep their own records in the tumultuous years while they tried out different kinds of government. Some writings were created then by scholars, bards, etc. but there is no certainty of accuracy in time or event. On the other hand, they are politically incorrect if you can manage to decipher the Old Nasivo.

------Nasivo is the name of the language spoken by all citizens of the Nation. It was created when the many races first came to the continent and is a mix of all the languages, although primarily of Ysea words. The Cortani also spoke this language, but after they schismed from the others, they reverted to their own language. Nasivo has evolved over the years, the percentage of different languages' words changing and dialects always modifying it. Dialects are also a major reason for the difficulty in translating old documents into Modern Nasivo. Words have changed their meanings completely and grammar has also changed drastically.

------Regarding Historical Documents: In Cortanige, the Soliq Rounu keep their own records in a large library treehouse in their capital, Seyitk. The Cortani people have one large library in their capital. Public accesss is restricted, but scholars are free to come and go. The Nation is more complicated. Each state considering itself to be independent, a large, national library in one city was unacceptable as they coujld not agree on a city. So, some states will have their own lbrary, others won't (those who don't think it's all that important. like the states with a majority of nomadic people.). The best library though is considered to be in the ....---....----....----...---....----....

Hey people: Short on ideas? Get a slinky. I'm not kidding. They're scientifically proven to help with inspiration and creativity.

08:32 am - ramblings
For my writing, I can easily tell what books I was into at the time just be reading through it. I can tell for other people too. It can get in the way of actually reading the manuscript when in the back of my mind the book is shouting. Seriously, once I was reading all these L.M. Montgomery and Louisa May Alcott books, and I went back through my writing and I was like, damn, this stuff is REALLY REALLY BAD!!! Then I had to go back over and rewrite everything in my present style.
Sometimes, though, it's not that bad. It'll actually be pretty good, but that's rare and I usually have to make some drastic changes.
Another thing, I have a sense of humour. Which means that whenever I try to write a scene where the character is emotional and then I go back to read it over, and I start laughing because it seems too ridiculous. :)

02:32 pm - Yeah, go montages!
Don't you wish parts of your life could be those montages in the movies? The sports ones where the training goes by and everyone gets better and better, or the ones where the hero is with friends and family and completely happy, or the ones where the hero's days are getting better and better all the time. The scenes flash by silently while the currently top song plays in the background and the character walks through them, as the events quickly evolve and time passes. You know in the back of your mind that as soon as the montage is over, once the song fades, then something horrible is going to happen to the hero, but right now its okay, the song's still playing.
